You’re probably detoxing, but have you thought about detoxing your skincare routine?

If it’s January and you’re drinking green juice, cutting back on sugar, maybe rekindling with the gym after ghosting it for a while… have you looked at your skincare recently?

Because here’s the thing no one’s talking about. A lot of us are “detoxing” our bodies while still layering ultra processed junk onto our skin.

And I don’t mean that in a judgemental way, I’ve been there. I worked in law, I fell for the “more steps = better skin” story like the rest of us.

But your skin doesn’t detox the way your liver does.
It doesn’t need a purge.
It needs nutrients.

Your skin is an organ. A living, breathing one. And when we overload it with acids, actives, fragrances, constantly trying every trend you see on socials, it goes into defence mode. Breakouts, dullness, sensitivity, “random” reactions. Sound familiar?

Most people think their skin is misbehaving. In reality, it’s overwhelmed.

Detoxing your skincare routine doesn’t mean stripping everything back to nothing or throwing products away in a dramatic January reset (especially not in a cozzie livs). It means asking better questions:

  • Does this product feed my skin or just coat it?

  • Am I fixing a problem, or reacting to one I created?

  • Is my routine supporting my skin barrier… or constantly testing it?

As a facialist when people come to me with tired, dull, reactive skin, the fix is rarely another product. It’s usually more hydration, fewer products, better consistency. Unfortunately, topicals can’t fix internal malnourishment, especially if you’re stressed, under-slept, and dehydrated.

Here’s how to detox your skincare routine without doing too much:

  1. Throw away expired products – Anything past its shelf life is not doing your skin any favours and could lead to irritation or sensitivity.

  2. Reevaluate last year’s hits and misses – Keep what worked, ditch what didn’t and please do not try every trend you seen on TikTok.

  3. Simplify your steps – If you’re using 10 products, step back to 4–5 that nourish and protect. A good cleanser, toner, moisturiser, oil and SPF is all you need to give your skincare routine a health kick.

  4. Swap to Glowcery nutrient-dense skincareyour skin, like your body, thrives on nourishment, not ultra-processed ingredients.

  5. Start eating your skincare – With fresh cold-pressed juices full of skin loving vitamins including vitamins A, C, and E as well as antioxidants to nourish your skin from the inside out.
