How to eat your skincare seasonally in January
Okay, so let’s chat.
January always has this weird energy, part fresh start, part hibernation, part “why is it dark at 4pm?” And if your skin feels a little dull, dry, or just… tired right now? You’re not imagining it.
This is actually the perfect time to start eating your skincare, seasonally.
First: What Is Seasonal Eating?
Seasonal eating simply means eating foods that naturally grow this time of year, in your climate.
In January, that looks like:
- Root vegetables
- Leafy greens
- Citrus fruits
- Warming, grounding foods
These foods are richer in the nutrients your body (and skin) crave in winter, things like antioxidants, vitamin C, minerals, and healthy fats.
Basically, nature already knows what your skin needs. We just forgot to listen.
Why Seasonal Eating Is So Good for Your Skin
Your skin is your largest organ, and in winter it’s working overtime:
- Cold weather = weaker skin barrier
- Dry air = dehydration
- Less sunlight = dullness
Seasonal foods help:
- Support your skin barrier
- Boost circulation and glow
- Calm inflammation
- Improve hydration from the inside out
Think of it as skincare that starts in your kitchen.
January Foods That Double as Skincare
Here are a few of my January go-tos, and why your skin loves them.
🥕 Carrots
High in beta-carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A.
Helps support cell turnover, brighten dull skin, and keep your complexion looking healthy (not grey, we’ve all been there).
Glow tip: Roast them with olive oil and coarse rock sea salt for better absorption.
🥬 Kale & Dark Leafy Greens
Packed with chlorophyll, iron, and vitamin C.
Great for detoxing gently (no juice cleanses here), supporting circulation, and keeping skin clear and resilient.
Glow tip: Massage kale with olive oil and lemon.
🍐 Fruits (Apples and Pears)
Vitamin C = collagen support, brightness, and protection against environmental stress.
Water = hydration from the inside out
Glow tip: Add fruits to juices and have as snacks for that extra fibre.
🧄 Garlic & Onions
Not sexy, but powerful. They support gut health and reduce inflammation, which directly impacts breakouts, redness, and sensitivity.
Eating Your Skincare ≠ Being Perfect
Let me be clear: this isn’t about restriction or being “good”.
It’s about asking: “What would actually nourish me right now?”
The Glowcery Way
At The Glowcery, we believe skincare works best when it’s:
- Fed from the inside
- Nourished from the outside
- Aligned with nature, not trends
Eating seasonally is just another way to remind your skin (and yourself) that you’re allowed to slow down and be taken care of.
