Today is Blue Monday, considered to be the most depressing day of the year. The theory goes that this is the time of year when we’re all cold, the weather is awful, we’re feeling guilty that our new year’s resolutions didn't go to plan and having to wait until the end of the month to get paid.
If you’re feeling a little Blue this Monday, reach for foods such as bananas, pineapples and avocados that are rich in amino acids, that are needed to make our happy hormone serotonin. Oats and seeds release energy slowly throughout the day, helping to regulate our emotions, whilst adaptogens such as Ashwagandha over time will help to balance stress hormones like cortisol. It’s important to stay hydrated as dehydration can cause mood changes, fatigue and poor concentration. Blue Monday Smoothie Recipe
- 1 frozen banana
- 100g Handful of frozen raspberries, strawberries and blackberries
- 100g Handful of frozen pineapple
- 1/4 of a ripe avocado
- 1 tsb matcha powder
- 1 tsb ashwaghanda powder
- 25g Sprinkle of oats
- 150ml oat milk
Add fruit, adaptogens and milk to your blender, blend until it reaches a smooth texture, pour into your favourite glass, mug or cup. Enjoy!
