Black Friday, The Good, The Bad And The Green

Black Friday, The Good, The Bad And The Green

This Friday 27th November 2020 is Black Friday, a day synonymous with big businesses slashing their prices, shoppers checking out the best bargains… and excess. Excess consumption, excess packaging, and excess strain on the Planet.

What Are We Doing?

We’ve teamed up with environmental charity One Tree Planted and for every product purchased on theglowceryshop.com on Black Friday, we’re planting one tree in The Amazon Rainforest 🌲🌲🌲

Black Friday, The Good, The Bad And The Green

We are a superfood skincare business who pride ourselves on our sustainable, ethical, and vegan values. And so, when it comes to Black Friday, we thought we’d do it the green way by teaming up with an environmental charity to help give back to Mother Nature. No surprise that we've renamed Black Friday, Green Friday.

We've all seen the viral videos of wide-eyed shoppers, fighting their way into overcrowded shopping centres and supermarkets to fill their trolleys with discounted TVs, toilet paper and whatever else they can get their hands on. Whilst this year will be entirely different, Black Friday still encourages overconsumption.

By participating we are not trying to encourage a culture of greed or excessive packaging, our hope is that by offering greener deals we are encouraging people to make better choices for themselves and the Planet, we just might grow our little Glow Community too! Plus your The Glowcery goodies will arrive in plastic-free, recyclable postage materials!

Why?

Planting trees in the Amazon Rainforest will help conserve habitat for its iconic wildlife species, provide sustainable livelihoods to local people, and stabilize the climate.

With the world’s largest rainforest ecosystem, it spans 9 countries and is home to almost 30% of plant and animal species on Earth. And by holding an estimated 90-140 billion metric tons of carbon, its forests play a critical role in the fight against climate change. Unfortunately, due to logging, unsustainable agriculture, and forest fires, it’s also a high risk zone for deforestation and degradation.

More trees planted = less CO2 and more oxygen. Trees cool the temperature of the planet by breathing in and storing harmful greenhouse gases like CO2, which contribute to climate change. These clever trees then convert these gases, releasing cleaner oxygen back into the atmosphere.
