Protect your pout in 5 easy steps

Protect your pout in 5 easy steps

By Alice Hartwell for THE GLOWCERY

Your pout is so often forgotten when it comes to skincare routines. Lips are commonly neglected when looking to protect and hydrate, which can leave you with a dry and lacklustre pout. Taking care of your lips daily couldn’t be easier, with just a few simple steps needed to keep them luscious and juicy all year round. In this latest blog post, The Glowcery dives into 5 simple ways to protect and hydrate your pout. Let’s get into it!

5 Steps to protecting your pout

With just a few daily or weekly skincare steps, you can protect and keep your lips moisturised no matter the weather. Simply follow our steps below to achieve your perfect pout:

  1. Exfoliation

Much like with your face, exfoliation of the lips is key for keeping the skin free from dead skin cells and allowing hydrating balms to sink in fully. Our Coconut Crumble Superfood Natural Lip Scrub is your perfect pout companion. Made with natural coconut sugar to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, our scrub is also packed with vegan fruit wax to leave your lips supple with a hit of hydration. Make sure not to over-exfoliate your lips as this could leave them sensitive and sore, go in with a scrub 1-2 times per week max.

  1. Hydrate

Once you have exfoliated, you need to add some hydration back into your pout. This will give your lips a juicy shine and also allow lipstick and gloss to glide on easier when applying. Opt for a lip balm to nourish and moisturise the lips, like The Glowcery’s Sweet Orange Superfood Natural Lip Balm. This thirst-quenching balm douses the lips with hydrating carrot and avocado oils, plus plant-based fruit wax and orange oil to keep your pout protected against all environmental stressors.

  1. SPF

SPF is so important to keep our skin protected against harmful UV rays, but how often do you forget about sun protection when it comes to your pout? Make sure to apply a form of SPF to your lips to avoid sun damage and dryness. You can find many balms that contain SPF, but we recommend simply applying your facial SPF across your lips to save adding another step to your skincare routine. Always opt for the highest factor of SPF possible, using a minimum factor of 15.

  1. Regular lip balm top-ups

When protecting your pout from environmental stress, you need to make sure to apply lip balm regularly. Our environment changes regularly throughout the day, be that the temperature or weather conditions, and it's also important to consider how our lips can be affected by what we eat and drink. This can all too quickly lead to dried-out or chapped lips. Make sure to keep your lip balm handy in your bag, so you can easily add a hit of moisture throughout the day, every few hours ideally.

  1. Avoid overly dry conditions

Where possible, avoid situations that can dry out your lips too much. For example, sitting in a room with air conditioning or spending too much time outside in cold weather. To an extent, this is unavoidable, especially during colder winter months, but make sure to arm yourself with all the necessary lip care tools. Consider using a humidifier in your room at night to cancel out dry air and avoid waking up with a chapped pout.
